79.  The 5th International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot from May 9 ~ 12, 2007
  in Noordweijkerhout, Netherlands.
(June 16, 2007)

novel participated as one of the main sponsors of the 5th International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot from May 9 ~ 12, 2007 in Noordweijkerhout, Netherlands. More than 900 participants took part in this important international conference on the DF.

http://www.diabeticfoot.nl

Load relief of the foot was one of the key subject areas of the meeting. Workshops demonstrated the importance of load relief in the prevention of ulceration in the Neuropathic Foot. Recent developments such as the Diapedia load relief system from the US were displayed.

novel demonstrated the emed and pedar systems in combination with their customised software for quick analysis of dynamic plantar pressure. novel also presented the new HTML Diabetic Foot Reporting System that can be embedded into most hospital information systems.

Many of the participants were already novel users who were happy to discuss the benefits of the novel systems. The meeting was superbly organised by Karel Bakker and his many co-workers.

78.  the third australian novel users meeting succefully ended (April 26, 2007)

On April 2nd and 3rd the Third Australian novel users meeting was held in Sydney, Australia. The meeting was hosted by Pat McLaughlin (ezup pty ltd) with support from novel gmbh provided by Axel Kalpen and Peter Seitz who had traveled out from Munich.
The first session was held at the Ibis Hotel on Darling Harbour in downtown Sydney. Both new and experienced users were invited from around Australia, and ultimately 21 people took part. Axel Kalpen led this 4 hour session which was a software workshop that focused on data collection and analysis
The first point of business was to identify key questions that users wanted answered. These were used as the basis for the rest of the afternoon. Axel provided an overview of the novel software, then proceeded to collect multiple data files from the emed X system which had been kindly transported to Sydney by Silvia McAra from Charles Sturt University in Albury, New South Wales.
In combination, the novel database medical, emed recorder and novel projects software were demonstrated as the most efficient way of reporting data in a short turnaround time. Axel used a limit of 8 minutes to collect patient and visit data, multiple emed data trials from both feet, and produce a final report. Later this data was also used to perform a comparative analysis between subjects.

The second day was held at the Podiatry Department of Westmead Hospital in suburban Sydney. The theme of the meeting was 'under pressure'. All current and potential users were invited to attend and ultimately we had 41 people in attendance. The best OZ conference bag ever was given to each participant.

The aim of this day was to encourage people to talk about their research, and also to encourage discussion between the audience and the presenters. We tried not to have a standard "10 minutes plus questions" day of presentations. We were not totally successful, but will keep working at the format! The topics discussed can be viewed in the attached program outline. Please feel free to make contact with me for follow up details (noveloz@aol.com).

In conjunction with ezup pty ltd, the meeting was hosted by Lindy Begg of Westmead Hospital and Josh Burns of The Childrens Hospital at Westmead. Catering and venue organised by Georgette Hanna of Westmead Hospital. My thanks to you all for your support, time and effort in making the day successful. Many thanks also to our presenters who were all super prepared and well drilled in making sure their presentations were on the PC!! Made my job easy. Of course, thanks to all the attendees - would have been boring without you.

As everyone knows, Axel is a master of preparation and presentation, and once again he also demonstrated the ability to answer questions "on the fly". After doing an early presentation on the second day, he was struck down by a back problem. But he toughed it out to complete a late afternoon session on the new posturography system. In Australia we would call him a "top bloke". Axel, my thanks to you for your support and friendship!

77.  The pedar system can now work as a high-end posturography system (April 08, 2007)

The pedar system can now work as a high-end posturography system!

This system can not only discriminate sway between the left and right feet, but also measure exactly what part of each foot generates the vertical ground reaction force during stance. Measurement of the total body centre of pressure (COP) and associated parameters is possible with this newly developed system.

The pedar-posturo consists of a posturography sensor mat that connects to the pedar system and a customized posturography software package. The pedar-posturo will prove to be a valuable tool in sports biomechanics, neurological, rehabilitation and geriatric research
