"People and the health"
in
St. Petersburg, Nov
21st to 25th
(Dec
12, 2005) |
|
novel participated in '10th
Jublilee Russian National Congress, 'People and the Health'
(orthopaedics~traumatology~prosthetics~rehabilitation)
in Saint-Petersburg from 21st to 25th of November, 2005.
The general attendee at the congress expressed a great
interest in our products and there was quite a demand
from the public on trying out our products themselves.
As a result we carried out the measurement procedures
with emed-at/R and pedar-x systems for those who wanted
to receive analysis about pressure distribution measurements
in reality.
We also performed the tests for those who wanted to know
their own plantar pressure distribution due to the pain
in feet, such as deformities or diseases as diabetes mellitus,
rheumatoid arthritis et al.
The visitors of the novel booth ranged over specialists
in the fields of orthopaedics, prosthetics, podiatry,
manual therapy, physiotherapy and sport medicine from
Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Saratov, Kaliningrad and Minsk
(Republic of Belarus).

53. Book Review :
The
Human Foot : A Companion to Clinical Studies by Leslie
Klenerman, Bernard Wood
(Dec
01, 2005) |
|
This
book, a collaboration between an orthopedic surgeon and
a paleoanthropologist, starts by tracing the evolutionary
history of feet all the way from their beginnings as fins
to modern human feet. It presents the foot, a neglected
but important region, taking into account advances in
the study of evolution, imaging, physiology and biomechanics.
The development of gait in children is described and measurements
of foot pressures and their value are discussed. Also
analyzed are various examples of the foot in action such
as running, ballet dancing, tightrope walking, kicking,
firewalking, swimming and the foot in microgravity, ending
with a chapter on the loss of parts and the whole of the
foot, the consequences and prosthetic replacement. The
text will be of interest to orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists,
sports scientists, and podiatrists. It will also appeal
to anyone interested in their feet. Read this book and
you will gain new insight and respect for your feet.

Book Review :
Principles
of Biomechanics & Motion Analysis by Iwan W. Griffiths,
Amazon.com
(Nov
30, 2005) |
|
This
biomechanics book explores the principles of mechanics
and motion analysis from a fresh perspective.
It offers a practical approach to biomechanics by illustrating
mechanical and mathematical principles with examples from
the real world.
The book seeks to explain the principles of mechanics
without assuming some knowledge of math and covers all
aspects of kinematics and kinetics. Numerous examples
help clarify and teach the necessary mathematics, which
is kept to the essentials. Limited knowledge of vectors,
trigonometry, or advanced math is required. Case Studies,
drawn from literature and real motion data collected at
the Motion Analysis Laboratory at the University of Wales
Swansea, illustrate important applications of principles.
Chapter Objectives and Outcomes clearly outline what students
should be able to accomplish upon completion of each chapter.
Chapter Summaries provide a review of key concepts and
topics. Study Questions help students test their knowledge
and reinforce retention of the material. Answers to the
questions are also provided.

International Symposium "Diabetic Foot" in Moscow,
Russia (June
1 ~ June 2, 2005) |
|
|
International Symposium "Diabetic Foot" was
held on 1st-2nd of June 2005 in Moscow, Russia. About
700 persons participated in the meeting and exhibition.
Professor I.Dedov, Russia opened the meeting. 21 presentations
were done by invited lectures from UK, Germany, Italy,
Netherlands, Russia, and USA. The wide world-known specialists
such as P.Cavanagh, R.Frykberg (USA), A.Boulton, K.Harding
(UK), D.Ziegler (Germany), E.Calabrese (Italy), Bakker
(Netherlands) were the presenters of this meeting. Three
parallel workshops were held after sessions.
novel
systems application and results of measurement data
analysis were used in presentations of I.Gurieva (Russia)
"Diabetic Foot in Russia: back to future",
P.Cavanagh (USA) "Footwear for people with diabetes",
V.Bregovsky (Russia) "Why is it important to evaluate
plantar pressure?". Workshop "Biomechanics
and footwear" held by P.Cavanagh (USA) and G.Galstian
(Russia) was based on application of emed-at and pedar-x
systems for plantar pressure measurements of three volunteers.
emed-at and pedar-x systems were exhibited in the novel
booth also. Many participants from different areas of
Russia (Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Krasnodar, Karelia,
Siberia, Far East etc.), Byelorussia, Ukraine, Moldavia,
Lietuva were interested in emed and pedar systems. It
was a big interest to a book V.Bregovsky et al. Low
Extremities Impairments in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus
(in Russian). One of the chapters of this book "Foot
biomechanics disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus"
gives the results of application of emed-at system in
two centers of Saint-Petersburg during 1998-2004 years
for examination of patients with neuropathy, Charcot
foot, and with amputations.
Knowledge about novel systems came to many new specialists
who could use novel systems in their practice.
