AFK sensors
The novel AF(artificial knee) sensors was developed to
measure interoperative balance of the ligaments. The shape
of the sensor can be adapted to the structure of the knee
joint product.
The
bingo sensor is measured 32 x32 matrix with 4 sensors/cm²,
and highly elastic. It adapts well to 3D surfaces.

This
shown patient in the video is undergoing arthroscopic
surgery in his right knee this week. He was tested in
the novel biomechanics laboratory to find out about imbalance
in dynamic foot loading.
Please take a close look at the right knee during the

We will also show in several weeks the dynamic pedography
of that patient after surgery.

The
new system was designed for mobile measuring of pressure
distribution in a more complex set-up. It can combine
a number of sensor matrixes such as hand and foot sensors
or hand and seat sensors or various shoe sensors at one
time. This allows the analysis of complex biomechanical
projects such as capturing of all contact forces that
a byciclist experiences(hands, seat, feet) or others.
All data are caputured synchronisely and can furthermore
be combined with EMG or video.

|
For
technique analysis and subsequently improving the golf
swing, the pedar
system can be used. Masking the foot in different
regions provides a simple way to monitor and assess weight
transfer during the swing, which is an important factor
influencing the quality of the swing.
Please click the following links or images for the new
golf videos. You can view those videos under 'Multimedia/Video'

Nordic
walking, walking while using Nordic ski poles, has become
very popular. By using poles, the upper body is trained
in addition to the lower body. The use of poles may reduce
the load placed on the joints of the lower limb. novel
is currently conducting a study of the influence of ski
poles on the loads on the feet. Click here to have a look

Novel Prothesen Messsystem
(May.26.2004) |
|
|
Das
pliance® RLS System
wuerde fuer die statische und dynamische Druckverteilungsmessung
an Prothesenstuempfen entwickelt. Die geeichten, kapazitiven
pliance® RLS Sensoren

Alpine and cross country ski testing in the Alpes
(Feb.24.2004) |
|
The
new pedar-x systems allow quick and easy field testing
in sports science. Long lead insole designs may be used
for measurements inside the ski boot.
The measuring insoles are cabled to the pedar-X, which
is secured on the individual with a sport belt.
The
data can be sent during the measurement directly to the
PC via the built-in bluetooth wireless technology or stored
on the built-in flash memory. The flash memory capacity
is 6 minutes when recording 100 frames per second. For
longterm measurements(up to several hours) the data can
be stored on a Windows pocket PC carried by the individual.
Upon completion of datat collection, the data can be transfered
from the pedar-X flash memory or pocket PC via bluetooth
to any PC for further evaluation.
Synchronised pressure and video data is presented in novel
player. Click on the links below to view a downhill skiing
novel player file.

3rd
novel Australian users meeting successfully took place
on Feb.3rd, 2004 (Feb.10.2004) |
|
The
3rd novel Australian users meeting was held at the University
of Sydney on February 3rd, 2004. The meeting was hosted
by the Patrick McLaughlin, novel's Australian representative
and the School of Physiotherapy, Cumberland Campus, University
of Sydney.
A total of 22 people attended, representing a wide range
of interests and experience in using the novel systems
in Australia. It was particularly pleasing that Dr. George
Carter, an orthopaedic surgeon from Perth in Western Australia
and novel's first Australian customer, travelled across
the country for the meeting.
A
range of short presentations was made on completed and
future research, but for the most part, attendees discussed
applications and analysis in an informal setting. The
day was especially beneficial for the new users in Australia,
who had the opportunity to run their project proposals
past the "old hands".
The
audience included biomechanists, podiatrists, surgeons
and post-graduate students from:
University of Sydney, NSW
University of Wollongong, NSW
Australian Institute of Sport, ACT and QLD
Charles Sturt University, NSW
La Trobe University, Victoria
Westmead Hospital, NSW
University of Western Sydney, NSW
Royal Newcastle Hospital, NSW
Royal North Shore Hospital, NSW
Australian Catholic University, NSW
Sydney Children's Hospital, NSW
Thanks
to Dr. Adrienne Hunt from the School of Physiotherapy
for helping to organise the day, and for Dr Jack Crosbie,
Head of the School, for hosting us all. Many thanks to
the presenters and all who attended! |
